Harness the power of acid to create your next art work! To start, a zinc plate is covered in a waxy acid-resistant ground. A scribe is used to remove the ground, exposing the bare metal. Etching acid eats the exposed zinc which creates grooves that will hold ink. Students will learn the intaglio method of printing their unique etched plate onto paper.

    Required Materials: Steel etching scribe.

    Steven Hill Glazing Workshop

"Steven Hill has been a professional studio potter since 1974. Steven's work is exhibited and sold in nationally juried shows and is featured in many ceramics books. He has conducted over 200 workshops throughout the United States and Canada and has written numerous articles for Ceramics Monthly, Pottery Making Illustrated, and Studio Potter, the most recent of which is, “An Approach to Single Firing – Further On”, in the January 2006 Ceramics Monthly."

The goal of this workshop is to help you get the most out of your ^6 glazes. We will be using your own pieces in this workshop. The basic technique of spraying glazes will be demonstrated and advanced theories of layering and blending will discussed.

Schedule for 3 day glazing workshop:

Day 1: Steven will throw a few pots, assemble and quick dry them.

Day 2: There will be a lecture on spraying and a demonstration of the techniques involved. Participants will be glazing their own pots in the afternoon and loading the kiln to fire overnight.

Day 3: There will be more discussions on spraying techniques and the equipment needed to setup a spraying studio. Ideas for further experimentation after the workshop will be discussed. Finally the kiln will be unloaded and the results will be reviewed.

    * Limited amount of pieces and sizes will be allowed and will be sent prior to event
