G.T. Tisori, a self taught artist has worn many hats while he eked out a living by working to support his obsession with art. Over the years he has plied many occupations: Plasterer, Mason, Fisherman, Seafood Purveyor and Broker, Restaurant & Bar Manager and numerous others to put bread on the table and a roof over his head.

Starting in the early 1960's he began painting with acrylics and tempura as a hobby to pass the time during the long winter interludes in the construction industry. In response to the political and social upheavals of the mid and late 60's he harbored profound concerns that the creative arts were estranging themselves from the issues confronting our society, feeling that contemporary painters, in general, were divorcing their art from any historical context and in the process neglecting the true power of their medium, the powers to observe, to elucidate, to inspire while commenting on their place in time. Instead, by concentrating their energies on the banality of repetitive themes and pretty pictures they have abrogated the hallowed traditions of a subjective and narrative art that has motivated societies over the centuries.

Tisori began to use oil paint as his medium of choice in 1980 due to the fact that he felt it was necessary to have a material that allowed an artist the flexibility and time to model his paint for the purpose of creating the illusion of the 3rd dimension on a 2 dimensional structure.

After exhibiting for 10 years in the San Francisco Bay area at various galleries including group shows and a few select solo shows to some critical acclaim but miniscule monetary reward Tisori decided to relocate to the Chicago area to earn some real money in the construction industry and foregoing his aspirations of pursuing a career as a full time professional painter. He still continued to paint on a part time basis but avoided becoming involved with the Chicagoland gallery scene or the area's art community, mostly due to the bad taste left by the galleries in San Francisco.

Historical and Sociological themes interplay throughout much of Tisori's art, stemming from a belief that the present and the future are best illuminated by the flickering lamp of the past, with the hope that others will discover within the imagery the humorous as well as the compassionate, and in so doing, recognize something of him in themselves!
